FAQ - Configuring Windows 98
Windows 98 has pre-installed everything needed to connect to the Internet.


Double-Click the Connect To The Internet short-cut on your desktop, or click Start - Programs - Internet Explorer - COnnection Wizard to begin configuring your Windows 98 system.


Select the second option - I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or a local area network (LAN). Help me setup my computer to connect to this Internet account - click Next.
Select the first option - Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or a local area network (LAN). - click Next.


Set Up Your Internet Connection - Select the first option - Connect using my phone line. - click Next.

Phone Number - Enter the area code and local access number your modem will dial to connect you to the Internet, - click Next.

User Name and Password - Enter your username and password, - click Next.

Advanced Settings - Select Yes, - click Next.

Connection Type - Select PPP, - click Next.

Logon Procedure - Select I don't need to type anything when loggin on, - click Next.

IP Address - Select My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one, - click Next.

DNS Server Address - Select Always use the following:
DNS server: 204.170.64.2
Alternate DNS server: 204.170.64.4
Click Next.

Dial-Up Connection Name - This is a name you assign to this connection. E.g., Comcation or ComCAT, click Next.

Set Up Your Internet Mail Account - Select Yes, - click Next.

Your Name - Enter your name or alias as you would like it to appear when you send Email, - click Next.

Internet E-mail Address - Enter your email address here. Your email address is your Comcation username@comcat.com. - click Next.

E-mail Server Names - Set My incoming mail server to POP3 server type, enter mail.comcat.com for both
Incoming mail (POP3) server, and Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, - click Next.

Internet Mail Logon - Select the Log on using option, then enter your POP account name and password (your comcat username and password), - click Next.

Friendly Name - This is a name you assign to this Email profile. E.g., Comcation or ComCAT Mail, - click Next.

Set Up Your Internet News Account - Select Yes, - click Next.

Your Name - Enter your name or alias as you would like it to appear when you post messages to usenet, - click Next.

Internet News Server Name - Enter news.comcation.net, - click Next.

Friendly Name - This is a name you assign to this News profile. E.g., Comcation or ComCAT News, - click Next.

Set Up Your Internet Directory Service - Select No, - click Next.

Complete Configuration - Click Finish.

This will remove the Connect To The Internet short-cut from your desktop, and Install the Internet Explorer and Outlook Express programs and icons.
